Stefano De Martini Is Fly Casting World Champion: Gold in Trout Distance
We are proud to announce it: our co-owner and flyline designer Stefano De Martini is the fly casting world champion.
At the World Championships held in Vinadio (Cuneo, Italy) from 24 to 30 August 2026 and organized by FIPSAS, Stefano won gold in Trout Distance, the distance casting event with fly fishing tackle and one of the most prestigious disciplines in fly casting.
A historic result for Italy
In Italy's four previous appearances at the World Championships, no Italian athlete had ever won the title in the Senior category, let alone in Trout Distance. This gold writes a new page for the entire Italian fly casting movement.
Ten years in the making
The title crowns a journey that began about ten years ago. After his time with the Italian national fly fishing team, Stefano chose to devote himself to fly casting, the discipline built on precision and distance competitions. What followed were years of training, competition and constant study of technique and tackle.
What a world title means for our flylines
In Trout Distance, the rules require every competitor to use the same flyline: a specific Scientific Anglers model. So the difference comes down to the caster – technique, timing and a deep understanding of how a flyline loads, travels and turns over.
As RazorBlade’s flyline designer, Stefano puts exactly that understanding into every flyline we make. Profiles, weights and tapers are designed and tested by someone who has proven, at the highest level in the world, that he knows what makes a flyline fly.
Congratulations, Stefano, from the whole RazorBlade team!
